Five Senses Poem About War

It smells like smoke from the gunfire.

It tastes like dirt from the trenches.

It sounds like explosions are all around us.

It feels like its never going to end.

It looks like we all could do with a shower as mud is all over us.

The Anzac Photo

I see a group of soldiers in 1919 standing in lines showing what clothes they had to wear and how muddy it got and how they had to stay like that for years and years and years. It show's the soldiers having guns on their backs and standing at some kind of old house or batch. Here is a picture of it.
It is a very hard job staying away from your family for years and years and if you survive you should be very proud of yourself for surviving.

Pinehill Anzac Service Assembly

Today I went to the hall and the school had a Anzac Assembly. Three people from my class were chosen to be some of the presenters and that wasn't me. There was a picture on the big screen that showed the field of remembrance at my school. First we had to sing the National Anthem. Then the presenters started doing there thing and we had to stand up for a while then we sat down for a second or two the standed up again. The New Zealand flag was in the hall. Then somebody had a trumpet and played a song about the war and then we had to have a minute of silence. Then after all that it was finalllllly time to go.

In The Trenches

Dear family still in the trenches its very dark, muddy, uncomfortable and super loud. I'm super tired and all my chums are sleeping and shooting. Eggs and shells are dropping and I'm to scared to fight so that's why I'm still down in the trenches. I never thought it would be this hard for war. I hope war stops soon. I need to go. From Ryan

Ryan's World War 1 Quilt

Yesterday Mrs Ward came in to show my class stuff about World War 1 and that her grandfather and his two brothers were in World War 1. Mrs Ward showed us how her grandfathers two brothers Ernest and Alban died and he survived. Ernest died by washing himself in muddy water and a bomb hit him. Gainor Mrs Ward's grandfather came back to his home and Gainor is still alive this day at 93 years old and he lives at devonport. Gainor's mother and father died by sadness. Mrs Ward has kept Ernest,Alban and Gainor's letters on something like carpet.

Ernest died on August 22th 1918 and Alban died August 29th 1918. 6 weeks after Ernest and Alban died the post man got a letter saying that Gainor was lost and he didn't give Gainor's mother the letter. 1 week later the post man got another letter saying he was found and the post man kept that two so they would not get confused.

At Shore

The sun is rising to meet the sky.

The trees swirl in the wind.

The sand is as smooth as stone.

The water is as loud as thunder
